AFL Israel set for Europe Cup

Israel set for Europe Cup WITH the momentum gained from the success of April’s inaugural Anzac international tournament in Beersheba, AFL Israel’s men’s team – the Israeli Beasts – have arrived in Kiel, Germany, for the start of the 2023 EuroCup. Israel will play four 30-minute pool games of nine-per-side footy starting with the Swedish Elks on Saturday, July 8 (5pm Australian time) – a match to be streamed live on the Team Israel AFL Facebook site. The Beasts will then take on last year’s finalist the German Eagles, the Welsh Red Dragons and the Ulster Wolfhounds. AJAX stalwart Jake Lew was special guest at the Beasts’ pretournament training session in Tel Aviv, and wished the team (pictured), which came eighth last time, well. Israeli natives make up the bulk of the squad, coached by Ido Schnitzer. He told The AJN on Monday that while there will be no easy matches for Israel, “Footy in Israel has taken a big step up in the last 12 months. “We are going to Germany with our most talented squad ever, and are aiming for a competitive EuroCup showing, to solidify us as a top eight squad.
