Israel Chosen to Host UEFA Under-19 European Champs
Tuesday heralded a wave of celebration in Israel, as the European Football Association (EFA) announced the country’s selection to host the esteemed Under-19 European Championship in 2027.
Israel’s journey in international youth football has been nothing short of commendable. The country, glowing with the incredible success of its youth national teams, particularly this summer, became the natural choice for hosting this grand tournament. The Under-19 national team showcased a gripping performance, making it to the finals of the U19 Championship in 2022 and subsequently clinching the bronze medal at the Under-20 World Cup in Argentina.
Beyond this, the Under-21 national team, elevating the national footballing spirit, reached the semi-finals of the European Championship, marking Israel’s significant presence in the Olympics—a monumental achievement unattained since 1976.
This announcement follows a detailed committee meeting of the European football governing body in Limassol, Cyprus. The decision is reflective of UEFA’s renewed policy that aims to fortify European soccer associations and uplift European soccer’s overall stature.
The Under-19 European Championship in 2027 won’t be Israel’s first rendezvous with hosting major tournaments. The country previously showcased its hosting capabilities during the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, setting high benchmarks in organisational excellence and hospitality.
Moshe Shino Zuares, the Chairman of the Israeli Football Association, radiated pride while discussing this opportunity. He stated, “The decision to select Israel and the Football Association to host the prestigious 2027 UEFA Under-19 European Championship is yet another heartwarming testament to the immense respect we command within UEFA. We, with every opportunity, have set high standards and consistently raised the bar.”
Zuares accredited a significant part of this success to the unwavering support and profound love for football displayed by the Israeli audience. The fans, in great numbers, have continually supported the national team, contributing to the creation of unforgettable experiences for everyone involved.
He continued, “We have diligently worked to secure this hosting opportunity,” signalling Israel’s commitment to providing a remarkable experience for all participants and spectators.
The 2027 UEFA Under-19 European Championship promises to be a spectacle of thrilling football, held in a country that has rapidly evolved as a notable name in international youth football. The achievements of Israel’s youth national teams and the unfaltering support of the fans have paved the way for this illustrious hosting opportunity, further strengthening Israel’s growing reputation in the world of football.
