Homa wins sixth PGA title

JEWISH American golfer Max Homa came back from five shots behind the leader after three rounds, to win the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open last weekend at Torrey Pines, San Diego. It was his sixth PGA Tour title, propelling him to his highest world ranking of 13th, and into second place in the FedEx Cup. It was also Homa’s first tournament win since becoming a father. He celebrated with his wife Lacey, and newborn son Cam, (pictured), whose name is engraved on all four of his wedges. “To see them behind the 18th green, knowing I was probably about to win a golf tournament was cool … this will be my corny dad story that I will tell every Thanksgiving,” Homa said. Homa kept his cool – and even played a hole while happily being mic’d up and interviewed during CBS’ live television broadcast – as he reeled in Sam Ryder, and then held off Keegan Bradley and Collin Morikawa. He took the lead by curling in a five-metre birdie putt on the 16th, and made sure of victory by birdying on the 18th, to finish on -13, two shots ahead of runner-up Bradley.
