RUGBY- Maccabi wins kiddush cup

MACCABI AUSTRALIA – RUGBY Maccabi win Kiddush Cup THERE was a good turnout of grassroots rugby fans last Saturday afternoon in St Ives for the second annual Kiddush Cup game, between hosts Northern Saints and Maccabi Rugby Club, at Hassall Park. The event is a tribute to the late Jewish former Wallabies forward David Emanuel. For the record, Maccabi won 25-5 and in good humour and spirit, rather than singing their own team song, belted out When the Saints go Marching In, swapping ‘Maccabi’ for the word ‘Saints’. It was well received, amid refreshments, snacks and friendly banter. Northern Saints vice-president Michael Amler (pictured, presenting the uniquely shaped trophy) said,“Our club loves hosting Maccabi Rugby. “The game was competitive , but on the day, Maccabi was the better side.”
