Harry Procel awarded Maccabi’s highest honour
The Board of Maccabi Australia, our affiliated States and members join the Australian Jewish community in congratulating Harry Procel on being awarded Life Membership of Maccabi Australia.
Harry is currently in his fifth year as President of Maccabi Australia. He joined Maccabi AJAX in Victoria in 1967, and competed as an athlete for 25 years, attending 15 Senior Carnivals over that time. Harry served as a Board Member of Maccabi Victoria for 18 years, and was awarded Life Membership in 1992.
He has represented Australia at six Maccabiot, including twice as Head of Delegation. Harry served as Head of Delegation to the Pan American Maccabi Games and two JCC Maccabi Games in the USA. He was also Chef de Mission at the European Maccabi Games.
Harry recently retired following a 20-year career as Managing Director of a jewellery wholesaling company.
Harry commented: “I am delighted and honoured to receive this wonderful award. It is quite humbling to be acknowledged by one’s peers.” He is only the sixth Maccabi Australia Life Member. The other members are; 1983 – Joe Rosen (WA)*, Lou Rose MBE (NSW)*, 1994 – Bernie Gold OAM (Vic), Louis Platus OAM (NSW), 1999 – Tom Goldman OAM (NSW).
