NSW Maccabiah 2017 Target Squad & Club Day
JCC 2015 and Maccabiah 2017 Games preparation kicked off with an information and Target Squad day held on Sunday 14th. September @ the Moriah Pool. With swimmers and parents from North and East Sydney attending there was a lot of excitement as 2013 Maccabiah Coach Anthony Goodridge outlined the road ahead for Maccabiah 2017!
Felafel and Fun followed at the Swim Club Day.
A record group of children and their parents battled the worst traffic jam Bondi had ever seen to get to the first club day of the swimming year.
After stretching and strengthening games outside, it was into the pool for some non-scary races. No one is too small or too bad a swimmer for club day. The whole point is about making swimming fun and challenging with the just-learning swimmers earning enthusiastic cheers from the crowd—and ribbons!!!—for struggling valiantly to complete 25m (one lap of a short course pool), while the more expert swimmers waited their turn to do ever-increasingly tough races, where their goal was to better their previous club day times, and finally the best in the group—our very impressive state swimmers—took on the 400 IM (individual medley); that’s four laps of butterfly followed by four laps of backstroke then four laps of breastroke before the last exhausting four laps of freestyle. I’m tired just writing about it.
Finishing off the races were some loudly supported relays where all ages and abilities where mixed to make the stakes as interesting as possible. Sadly the wind picked up just as our hungry swimmers were ready for their Israeli feast, making the end of the party a little more briskly concluded than was intended. But fuelled and fulfilled, all went home cheery
