Maccabi-NSW-President-Rod-Rosmarin

Introducing our new President – Rodney Rosmarin!

At Monday evening’s Maccabi NSW AGM, our long-time President, Lauren Ehrlich, said goodbye to the role after serving the maximum term of 5 years. We welcome Rodney Rosmarin as her replacement – who is eager to step up to the plate.

“Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lauren for her commitment and dedication that she has brought to Maccabi. Lauren has not only served as President for the past 4 years, but she was also on the Board for 10 years, was the President of the Netball Club, and been a member for many years. Lauren’s passion was infectious. Although she is stepping down as President, we know Lauren will always be part of the Maccabi Family.

As incoming President, I feel very honoured and privileged to be taking on the role. I have been a member of Maccabi for over 35 years and it has played a major part of my life. I believe there is still so much opportunity and potential to continue to engage and connect the Jewish community through sport and wellbeing and I am looking forward to working with all of you.”

Q&A WITH RODNEY

When did your association with Maccabi begin?
I joined Maccabi as a teenager shortly after arriving from South Africa in 1987. I played soccer, cricket, and tennis, and attended both Junior and Senior Carnivals. I have also had the privilege of competing at Maccabiah and the Pan Am Games in Argentina for football, and I’m hoping to go to Maccabiah again next year with my wife and 2 girls – who will hopefully be selected to play netball.

When did you formally become involved in Maccabi leadership?
I joined the Maccabi Board in 2017 and looked after the Football Portfolio. I was appointed Vice President in 2018.

What are your thoughts and feelings about Maccabi as an organisation?
Maccabi is an amazing organisation with a very proud history of developing Jewish sport. It provides an opportunity for Jewish people to connect and form life-long friendships. The next few years present a wonderful opportunity for Maccabi to continue to grow as an organisation.

There are 4 key focus areas for Maccabi:

  1. Clubs – The Clubs are the heart and soul of Maccabi. Our goal is to provide the best possible support and administration to our clubs to ensure it’s the place of choice for our community and members to play sport.
  2. Maccabi Life – Maccabi NSW will continue to engage the broader Jewish community by expanding the programs offered in the health and wellbeing space, as well as events and unstructured sports, such as Walkie Talkies.
  3. Programs Events and Projects – We want to provide the best camps, carnivals, events, and programs for people across the entire community – of all abilities.
  4. Hakoah/White City – Hakoah will be a world-class Jewish community centre, with sporting facilities, function rooms, restaurants, and much more – that’s open to all. We will continue to partner with Hakoah as we build the future home for Maccabi NSW at White City.

There are exciting time ahead for Maccabi – and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. You should be too!
