Tenpin Superleague: 20th Anniversary Tournament
On your left seated is Graeme Bogan; Anthony Houston seated on right and Stephen J. Clarke standing at the back.
On your right seated is Susan Sznajer; Deidre Libber and standing is Naomi Baram.
The year was 2001 and Maccabi Tenpin Super League was formed with the help from Maccabi NSW Mick Vasin, past bowlers Michael Skovron; Mark Lustig; Henry Goldberg and a few other I cannot recall.
So this brings us to the present, that is last Wednesday, 24th November our club had its 20th Anniversary Tournament to celebrate that the club has survived 20 years and its was said that we would not last!
We had a good turnout, having seven men’s and three ladies competing. In the Men’s division were Andrew Drylie; Anthony Houston; Ari Baram; Graeme Bogan; Howard Baram; Michael Eisenstein and Stephen J. Clarke. In the Ladies division were Deidre Libbert; Naomi Baram and our President Susan Sznajer.
In this tournament the bowler’s bowls 6 games with handicap added to their scratch score in three blocks of two games. Leading the charge after the first 2 games block in the men’s division was Anthony on 405 w/hcp; followed closely by Stephen on 396 w/hcp and with one pin behind was Howard on a 395 w/hcp; coming in 4th was Graeme on 383 w/hcp; 5th was Michael on a 333 w/hcp 6th was Andrew on 329 w/hcp and Ari on 327. In the Ladies division Naomi was leading with 390 w/hcp followed by Susan on 332 w/hcp and then Deidre on 318 w/hcp.
High game scratch in the first two blocks went to Graeme – 195; Stephen – 189; Anthony – 182; Howard – 173; Naomi – 166.
After games 3 and 4 were bowled the leader board had change. Leading after the 2nd block was bowled was Graeme on 406 w/hcp followed by Stephen on 395 w/hcp; 3rd was Ari on 364 w/hcp; 4th Howard on 359 w/hcp; 5th Michael on 341 w/hcp; 6th Andrew on Deidre on 421 w/hcp and Naomi on 338 w/hcp.
High games scratch in the second two block went to Stephen who bowled another 189 game; Graeme – 171 and Susan – 180.
After the final two games were bowled the leader board had changed again and the final standing in the men’s division was in first place on 1198 w/hcp Graeme; 2nd on 1182 w/hcp Anthony; 3rd on 1180 w/hcp Stephen; 4th Howard on 1167 w/hcp; 5th Ari on 1066 w/hcp; 6th Michael on 1016 w/hcp and Andrew on 998 w/hcp. In the ladies division in first place was our President Sue on 1176; 2nd Naomi on 1109 w/hcp and in 3rd Deidre on 1059.
High games scratch in the final block went to Stephen – 185; Howard – 181; Graeme with 168 and 171 games.
As there were only three ladies bowling, the positions were declared.
In the men’s division third was declared and a one game playoff between first and second.
In the playoff both Graeme and Anthony opened their first and second frame, Graeme closed the 3rd & 4th frame with a strike where Anthony spared his 3rd & 4th frame. Graeme opened both 5th & 6th frame where as Anthony open the 5th but closed with a spare in the 6th frame. In the 7th; 8th frame Graeme closed with two spare; strike the 9th frame and in the 10th frame strike and spare for a total scratch score of 167 with 202 w/hcp. Anthony spared the 9th frame and in the 10th frame a strike but missed the spare. Anthony finished runner up with a scratch score of 154 with 193 w/hcp.
