After a one-year break, the Maccabi Tennis Club and Victorian Jewish Tennis Championships (Juniors) were again held in December (photos and results are below).

With 7 different events, across 2 weekends, there were plenty of opportunities for players of all levels to participate and enjoy good Tennis. Many players participated in more than one event.

A big thanks to Tournament Director Gaby Shapiro – we are looking forward to the 2023 tournament with some exciting new changes – stay tuned.

We even had our Family Fast 4 doubles event, which allowed the parents to participate as well.

A special mention to the Boys 14 singles grand final. It was an incredible game between Aaron Kramer and Elan Amler. Aaron won the first set 6-4 but then Elan matched with winning the second set 6-4 as well. With one set each, they went for a 10 point tiebreaker. It was very close and resulted in a 10-8 win for Elan. Both boys presented some great and smart tennis, powerful strokes and good sportsmanship with both happy at the end. Well Done!

In our other events we had:

  • Hugo Samuel winning the Boys 12 singles 6-0 6-3 against Matthew Cashmore
  • Blake Golden winning the Boys 18 singles 8-1 against Henry Orner
  • Yonatan Sirkis winning the Boys 18 singles consolation 6-1 against Elan Amler (yes, the same player that won the boys 14 earlier that day)
  • Danielle Nagar won the Girls Juniors singles event (round rubin) winning all her 4 matches and Linda Li finishing as the runner up winning 3 matches
  • For the Juniors Doubles we had many siblings, which was very nice to see with Jeremy Samuel and Hugo Samuel winning event and Sarah Orner and Henry Orner finishing as the runner up
  • The Fast 4 Family Doubles was all held in one day, with most of the matches at the evening with some good family support. Following the initial rounds, in the grand final the Samuel Family (Warren and Jeremy) won 6-1 against the Behr Family (Ryan and James)

Boys 18 singles winner Blake Golden

Boys 14 Singles runner up Aaron Kramer and winner Elan Amler
