A picture perfect week of sport
THE first national Maccabi Junior Carnival held since 2020 concluded in Melbourne on Sunday, January 22, capping off a memorable week of fun, friendship, and competition by the 210 participants. Jewish boys and girls from years 7 to 10 enjoyed representing Maccabi Victoria, NSW, Qld and WA in a wide variety of sports, from netball and basketball (pictured), to football, volleyball and tennis. There were some close contests, and plenty of skill on show, but most importantly, impressive teamwork and good sportsmanship. Participants also engaged in fun nightly social activities, including a pool party and a silent disco. Carnival coordinator Tali Friede said, “Encouraging youth to take part, and be active in Junior Carnival, has been key in fostering a sense of community and belonging among Jewish youth in Australia … uniting kids through their shared love of sport.” An army of volunteers, and generous sponsors, made it all possible.
