Australian Open success

THERE was a strong international field at last weekend’s 2023 Canoe  Slalom Australian Open at Sydney’s Penrith Whitewater Stadium – the home course of Jewish siblings Jessica (pictured) and Noemie Fox. In very hot conditions on Saturday, Jessica claimed bronze in the women’s single kayak final, won by France’s Camille Prigent, while Noemie just missed out on a podium spot, placing fourth. Jessica won gold the following day in the women’s single canoe final, making no errors while nailing a time of 104.84 seconds. She beat runner-up Evy Leibfarth of the USA by 6.69 seconds, while Noemie came fourth. Jessica finished the event on a high by winning the women’s extreme kayak cross race. “I’m pretty happy with my racing, [but] there’s still a few things where I know there’s room for improvement, which is always good,” Jessica said.
