Around the Grounds: SWIMMING Good Results at Vic Open

MELBOURNE Vicentre Swim Club reps and brothers, Benno and Dante Negri, Surrey Park member Tali Gant, and Maccabi-AJAX para swimmer India Biesse Fitton, competed in the 2023 Victorian Open Long Course. Swimming Championships, from February 17-19.

Elder Negri sibling Benno, 24, swam the first leg in two relay events for his club, helping it win silver medals in the mixed 200 free, and the mixed 200 medley, relays. Dante, 22, swam in several events, and his best result was an excellent ninth place in the A-final of the men’s 50 butterfly, in a time of 25.77 seconds. That event had a large field of 81 entrants. Gant, 16, entered five events, and was particularly fast in the women’s 400m, clocking 4:35.28 to place sixth in the B final, and 16th out of 34 swimmers overall. Biesse Fitton, 23, in individual multi-class events, won silver in the women’s 200 free A Final, and fourth in both the 100 backstroke and 400 free A finals.
