Shabbat Dinner: Fostering Community at Maccabi Ajax Senior Cricket Club

By Maccabi All Abilities Coordinator, Kate Lustig:

Last Friday evening, the Maccabi Ajax Senior Cricket Club hosted a Kabbalat Shabbat dinner at Caulfield Shule, which was a delightful event for all attendees. The club welcomed 85 members and their families, along with the Maccabi All-Abilities Team, who were all excited to come together to celebrate the beauty of Shabbat.

The dinner was a true testament to the club’s commitment to fostering a sense of community and camaraderie amongst its members. Everyone was warmly welcomed and embraced the spirit of the evening with open hearts and minds. As the sun set over Caulfield Shule, a traditional Kabbalat Shabbat service was held, led by Rabbi Daniel Rabin. As the evening progressed, guest speaker Mark Fine took the stage to share some of his experiences as a SEN radio host and former Maccabi AJAX CC first XI captain. He regaled the attendees with stories from his time at the club and provided some valuable insights into the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and dedication. The night was filled with laughter, joy, and great food, which was prepared by the talented catering team at Solomon Kosher.

Overall, the event was a great success and a testament to the club’s dedication to fostering a strong sense of community and belonging amongst its members. The All-Abilities Team is especially appreciative of the club’s efforts to include them in the event. ‘It was a heartwarming gesture that made our team feel valued and accepted as part of the larger Maccabi community’. The Club looks forward to continuing this annual Shabbat dinner tradition.
