Maccabi Athletic Stars Sprint to Success & Accolades

Maccabi Athletes Excel at Australian Championships

The Australian Open and under 20 Track and Field Championships were held in Brisbane from 30th March to 2nd April, showcasing the incredible talent of several Maccabiah Games medallists. The Maccabi Athletic Club athletes displayed remarkable performances, setting new personal bests.

Emma De Jong’s Outstanding Performance

Athletics Club athlete, Emma De Jong, dominated the under 20 events at the Championships, earning a silver medal in the 3000m final with a personal best time of 9 minutes 41.32 seconds. Not stopping there, she continued her exceptional performance in the 1500m heats, qualifying for the final with another personal best time of 4 minutes 32.38 seconds. Emma ultimately finished 8th in the field of 12 in the final, marking a fantastic four days of competition.

Shanie Landen’s Remarkable 800m Run

Open age club champion and Israeli 800m title holder, Shanie Landen, achieved a personal best in the 800m race, finishing an incredible 4th place in the star-studded final. Shanie shaved almost a full second off her previous best time, clocking in at 2 minutes 4.83 seconds.

2023 Maccabi National Sports Awards

In other news, the 2023 Maccabi National Sports Awards were held online on Sunday 2 April. We are thrilled to announce that club athlete, Ori Drabkin, won the Victorian All Abilities sports award. Ori was also the recipient of the Rudi Roth Scholarship, an annual grant awarded to an emerging athlete to assist them in achieving elite-level success in their sport.

Jemima Montag received the award for Open Victorian Sportswoman of the Year and was also honoured with the Maccabi National Presidents Award for her achievements on and off the track. Jemima’s “Play On” initiative, aimed at empowering girls to continue participating in sports, was particularly recognised for its positive impact.

Victory Lap for Maccabi Athletics

The Australian Open and under 20 Track and Field Championships, as well as the 2023 Maccabi National Sports Awards, highlighted the impressive accomplishments of Maccabi Athletics Club athletes. Their hard work, dedication, and passion continue to inspire and motivate others to strive for success. Congratulations to all the athletes for their outstanding achievements!
