What an emotional rollercoaster this weekend has been! Our Maccabi McKinnon teams demonstrated amazing tenacity, skill, and sportsmanship in their respective grand finals held at Bentleigh Secondary College. Though not all came away with the win, every single team exemplified what Maccabi Basketball Victoria is all about. This season has been unlike any other, filled with highs, lows, and nail-biting finishes. But at the end of it all, we couldn’t be prouder of our teams and the community that has supported them.
U12 Warriors vs Mayan Warriors
Our youngest finalists, the U12 Warriors, came out on top with a thrilling 16-14 overtime victory against the Mayan Warriors. Thanks to Coach Harry Samuels, the team turned a challenging match into an unforgettable win.
U14 Warriors vs Silver Wolves
The U14 Warriors took on the Silver Wolves and showed remarkable grit throughout. Coached by Emily Szwider & Maddy Jacobs, the team left an impression not only on us but also on the opposing side. A Silver Wolves mum posted on social media, “Well done girls…You have been a tough, determined team all season and one of the best/friendly/fair teams we’ve played against this season. Be proud girls.”
U16 Fever vs Lakers
In a match that could only be described as a suspense thriller, the U16 Fever went head-to-head with the Lakers, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer. Coached by Josh Daniels, the Fever displayed remarkable finesse. In the end, they lost by a heartbreakingly narrow margin—just two points separated them from victory. While they didn’t take home the trophy, they certainly won the admiration of everyone who witnessed their valiant effort.
The Crowning Jewel: U18 Warriors Girls Team
The highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly our U18 Warriors Girls team. Coached by Sam Vulis, they claimed the top division title at McKinnon, defeating the 2nd and 1st ranked teams in consecutive weeks. In the words of Coach Sam, “Amazing effort by the players. One of the most enjoyable seasons I’ve ever coached. Was a pleasure!”
A Game To Look Forward To: U14 Dream vs Jets
While most of the finals took place over the weekend, the McKinnon U14 Dream are set to take on the Jets this coming Wednesday (13/09) at 7pm . The anticipation is palpable, and the community is rallying behind them. Coach Drew Solewicz has been emphasising teamwork and strategic play in preparation for the big game. Don’t miss what promises to be another thrilling match.
