Maccabi Golf Club’s Inaugural Teams Event: A Triumph on the Green
The Maccabi Golf Club recently marked a milestone with the inaugural teams event held at the scenic Cranbourne Country Golf Club, where the weather conditions were nothing short of perfect. Drawing golfers from various clubs around Melbourne, notably those with significant Jewish memberships, the competition turned out to be a grand spectacle.
Enthusiastic Participation Nearly 180 avid golfers participated in the qualifying rounds, all vying for a coveted spot to represent their respective clubs. By the day of the finals, 48 golfers stood ready to swing for glory. The final teams comprised foursomes from renowned clubs: Spring Valley, Huntingdale, Kingston Heath, Southern, and The National. Metropolitan, Yarra Yarra, were also well represented with two teams respectively as well as three teams from Cranbourne.
Winners on the Day Gary Burns, Stephen Pinch and Peter Wittner stood out with the best individual scores.
For the team’s event, it all boiled down to the collective scores of each team. Here are the champions:
- Third Place: The team from Spring Valley, included Abe Berman, Russell Harris, Hedley Slomoi, and Myer Lipshitz. Their commendable performance was rewarded with stylish golf bags from Brighton BMW.
- Runner-up: The second place was clinched by Metropolitan Team 2. The team members were Tony Beaconsfield, Peter Wittner, Jonathan Kenny, and Peter Horovitz. Their prize? A lavish stay and play at Barwon Heads and the luxury of driving a BMW for the weekend, all courtesy of the Cranbourne Country Club.
- The Champions: Metropolitan Team 1 took the trophy home. Kudos to Stephen Wagen, Mark Davis, David Fajnkind, and Peter Janovic. They were rewarded with a stay and play experience, including transfers at the illustrious Barnbougle Golf Course in Tasmania, once again courtesy of the Cranbourne Country Club.
A Special Thanks to Our Sponsors Our inaugural teams event wouldn’t have been the grand success it was without the generosity and support of our sponsors. A heartfelt thank you to Brighton BMW, our long-standing partner, for their continued support and dedication. We are equally grateful to the Cranbourne Country Club for joining hands with us this year. Their keen interest in promoting golf amongst Jewish players is commendable. It’s collaborations like these that elevate the stature of events and provide a memorable experience for all involved. We look forward to nurturing these partnerships in the coming years and are always open to welcoming more sponsors into the Maccabi Golf Club family.
A Bright Future for Maccabi Golf Victoria The event was not only a testament to the skills of the participants but also to the spirit of camaraderie among players from around Melbourne. Maccabi Golf Victoria is elated with the outcome and eagerly looks forward to seeing even more enthusiasts join future events.
Mark your calendars for the next Maccabi golf event scheduled from December 1-3 at Cobram Barooga. If this entices you or you wish to keep tabs on our upcoming events, please head to macvicgolf.com to become a member.
Thank you to all participants, sponsors, and golf fans for making this a memorable event. Here’s to more such successes in the future!
