Maccabi Athletics Update
The fourth round of the AVSL (track and field club competition) at Keilor this weekend was a success, with our athletes delivering a series of personal bests (PBs).
Athlete Highlights:
- Danielle Axarlis’ Impressive 200m Sprint: Under 18 sprinter Danielle Axarlis smashed her 200m pb clocking 26.21 sec to win her heat of the 200m. This was a huge personal best and would have placed her second in the under 18 All Schools final held last week which Danielle could not run due pending exams.
- Under 16 Achievements: Under 16 athletes Keira Donner (200m 28.77sec) and Mica Ickowicz (800m 2.45.08) also recorded significant best runs.
- Men’s Category Standouts: In the men’s races 17 year old Oliver Kranz ran his 200m in 23.02 sec – just missing dipping under the magic 23 sec barrier for the first time, whilst 15 year old Ben Blecher shaved 0.03 off his 200m time to clock 23.24sec. Ben also performed well in the 800m and shot put, contributing valuable points to the club.
Intra-Club Competition Update: Danielle Axarlis is still leading both ladders of our intra-club competition.
Upcoming Events and Reminders:
- AVSL Round 5 is scheduled for next weekend at Frankston. Registration closes at 11.59 am on Wednesday.
- Training sessions continue to grow in both numbers and enthusiasm, with sessions on Tuesday and Thursday at Caulfield Park and Sunday at Duncan MacKinnon.
Club Announcements:
- Congratulations to our primary school members for their success in last week’s School Athletics carnivals.
- Best wishes to club coach Jarrod Zuchowski in the Victorian Under 20 5K championships this Thursday, 16th November.
We’re looking forward to continuing this momentum and seeing everyone at the upcoming events and training sessions. Let’s keep up the great work!
