Ben’s brilliant winner for Hakoah men

HAKOAH FC has risen to the top eight in the 16-team 2023 Football NSW League One men’s first grade competition thanks to a nail-biting 3-2 win over the Inter Lions in front of a very satisfied Hensley Field home crowd last Saturday. The winning goal came off the boot of super sub Ben Fuchs, in the 89th minute, to deliver Hakoah victory, and seventh spot on the ladder on 11 points, with a record of three wins, two draws, and two losses. Hakoah led by 2-1 at half-time, before Inter Lions equalised in the 83rd minute. In a tense last 10 minutes, Inter Lions had a player red-carded, and Hakoah were good enough to take advantage and produce a crucial goal. Other Jewish players in Hakoah’s winning team included Josh Fuchs and Zach Pillemer, who both started, and Jesse Hirschowitz, who came on from the bench. Hakoah’s first grade team will next have an Australia Cup preliminary round three fixture scheduled for Tuesday night (March 28), when they will travel to face Castle Hill. The Blues’ U20s had a narrow 2-3 loss to the Inter Lions last Saturday, after scores had been locked at 2-2 at half-time. They are coming sixth on the U20s ladder, with three wins, a draw, and three losses.
