AND they’re back!
The North Caulfield Maccabi Reserves bounced back from a couple of tough defeats with a dominant 3-0 win over Knox City Reserves. Maccabi took control early in the first half, breaking the deadlock when Benji Hodes sliced through the opposition’s defence and fired home with a powerful left-foot shot. Just minutes later, Josh Pianko delivered a perfect cross into the box, which was expertly headed home by Amir Keren, who rose above the defenders for a powerful finish. With the game nearing its end, Josh Pianko sealed the victory with a brilliantly taken penalty, making it 3-0.
The senior teams then took centre stage in a thrilling match that saw Maccabi secure another resounding 4-1 win. The first goal came in the 18th minute when Mikki Schneider finished off a rapid counterattack. In the second half, it was Mikki’s brother, Benji, who doubled the lead with an incredible volley, converting Saul Almeleh’s pinpoint cross from the left. The Schneider brothers combined again for the third goal in the 76th minute. After a defensive error, Mikki found himself face-to-face with the goalkeeper but unselfishly squared the ball to Benji, who calmly slotted it home. Though Knox pulled one back to make it 3-1, Mikki quickly responded, assisting Josh Mindel for a close-range finish to make it 4-1.
Both victories were met with enthusiastic celebrations from players, coaches, and the large crowd of supporters on the sidelines. Among them were several former Maccabi players and long-time fans, all gathered for a special event organized by Andrew Freund, Director of Football at North Caulfield Maccabi.
