JUDO
Brilliant results by brothers MOUNT Sinai College students Mason and Ben Blackstone (pictured from left) won a gold medal each at the 2024 Judo Australia Open Schools Championships in Brisbane in the U13 boys’ under-54kg and U11 boys’ competitions respectively.
Then at the Queensland International, Ben won another gold and Mason won silver.
JEWISH INTER-SCHOOLS
Chag HaSport goes down to wire EMANUEL School won the overall 2024 Chag HaSport 4-2 over Moriah College, sealing it on September 25 with a nailbiting 5-0 victory in the senior boys’ rugby match, scoring the only try.
In the preceding days, Emanuel beat Moriah 35-17 in netball, 7-2 in girls’ futsal and 25-21 in boys’ basketball, while Moriah outlasted Emanuel 7-6 in boys’ futsal and by 25-21 in girls’ basketball.
Players from both schools can be proud of their efforts. And in the U16 boys’ rugby match, the Kesser Torah College Rams proved too good on the day for Moriah, defeating them 24-0. The Rams’ Ben Krebs, who was picked in an extended AICES squad, was named MVP.
ATHLETICS
Acing it for AICES JEWISH athletes represented AICES at the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) secondary athletics championships on September 24, with five out of seven qualifying for the NSW All Schools Championships, which conclude on October 2. Masada College’s Ziv Danieli (pictured) won gold in the 14 boys’ triple jump, clearing 11.07m. From Moriah College, Tali Baltineshter won gold in the 18-19 girls’ javelin with a throw of 46.72m, Emily Wise claimed bronze in the 15 girls’ 100m clocking 13.04 seconds, and Jaimee Slot and Riley Pager came fifth and sixth in the 15-16 girls’
3000m. Emanuel School’s Alexander Kirievsky earned silver in the 17 boys’ shot put with a PB of 13.44m and bronze in both the javelin (42.99m) and discus (35.97m), while his sister Sophia was placed fifth in the 13 girls’ discus.
JUNIOR BASKETBALL
Maccabi Pistons perfect in GF MACCABI 10A boys’ Pistons, coached by Adam Berger, won the term 3 Easts Basketball League grand final last Sunday 42-30 over the Bondi Lions Troopers. Maccabi U14A girls’ Liberty and Maccabi U16 girls’ Mystics finished runners-up; the former fell 30-35 to Bondi Lions Avengers, and the latter lost by a point to the Bronte Bulls Fire.
