Historic Victory Sends Maccabi Tennis Club to National Finals
Maccabi Tennis Club has continued its strong start to 2026, with major success on court, exciting community partnerships and growing opportunities for junior players ahead of the upcoming competition season.
Maccabi Crowned Tennis Victoria League Champions
Maccabi Tennis Club achieved a historic milestone over the ANZAC Day weekend, winning Section 2 of the 2026 Tennis Victoria League Championships.
After qualifying through the Club’s Premiership-winning Section 3 Bayside Tennis Association summer campaign, Maccabi was invited to compete against premiership clubs from across Victoria in the Tennis Victoria League Championships.
Across a demanding round robin tournament format played over the weekend, Maccabi faced five other premiership clubs and delivered a standout team performance to claim the title.
The championship-winning squad included Jordan Jaffe (captain), Asaf Nagar, Assaf Drori, Joel Fredman, Marty Schwarz, Rob Minc, Jonny Henquin and Dean Steinberg.
A special mention goes to coaches Asaf Nagar, Maccabi Tennis Club Head Coach and Coaching Director of Trademark Tennis, and Assaf Drori, coach at Bialik College, who remained undefeated throughout the doubles-only tournament.
The result now sees Maccabi qualify for the Tennis Australia National League Finals on the Gold Coast from 16-18 October 2026 as part of Tennis Australia’s newly introduced national leagues pathway initiative.
The national competition will bring together leading clubs from around Australia, with teams competing in a round robin doubles format across the three-day event.
With the story still developing, the Club is encouraging the community to get behind the team as preparations begin for the national stage later this year.

Australian Open Ballkid Trials Held at Maccabi
Maccabi Tennis Club also proudly hosted one of Tennis Australia’s official ballkid trials earlier this month ahead of the 2027 Australian Open.
Despite challenging weather conditions, more than 60 enthusiastic prospective ballkids attended the trial on Sunday 3 May, providing a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Club and its facilities to the wider community.
Maccabi was one of only a select number of metropolitan and regional Victorian clubs chosen by Tennis Australia to host a trial.
Among the volunteers assisting with grading was talented junior Ori Diamond, 16, who recently featured as a ballkid during the men’s singles final at the 2026 Australian Open.
Ori and his younger brother Raphael, who was also a ballkid at this year’s tournament, have recently joined Maccabi Tennis Club and are currently playing their first season of men’s Pennant tennis.
