Meet Your Carni VIC Team Managers
Rachelle Goldenberg
I am a mum of 3 and I have been involved with Maccabi for many years in various sports including cricket, football, netball, basketball, hockey, softball and tennis. I was a member of the organising committee for 2 previous Vic-only carnivals. I really enjoy being involved and I am looking forward to being a part of an awesome Carnival in Perth 2025!
What sport or activity were you obsessed with when you were a teen, and do you have any funny or memorable stories about it?
When I was younger I played a few seasons of hockey. I was lucky enough to win the ‘Tony Lockett award’ – for the leading goal scorer, with a massive total of 2 goals for the entire season! 😊 We clearly were not a very good team, but we had fun anyway!
If you had to pick a theme song that plays every time you enter a room during Carni, what would it be and why?
Beautiful day – U2: the song emphasises the simple joys of life and encourages us to appreciate the beauty surrounding us and inspires us to embrace each day with optimism.
What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to a first-time participant to make the most of their Maccabi Junior Carnival experience?
Go along to Carni with an open mind. Get involved, meet new people and always keep a smile on your face!

Imagine the Maccabi Junior Carnival is being turned into a blockbuster movie. Which actor or actress would you want to play you, and what would the movie’s title be?
I think I would choose Angelina Jolie- she is a powerful, strong independent woman in my eyes and I think she has the attitude that there is nothing a woman can’t do. I feel so strongly and passionate about this as this is the way I live my life. I am determined to do anything and everything to get the job done. Movie title would be “Never give up!”
If you could travel back in time to train or play with a legendary sports figure, who would it be and in what sport?
Jim Stynes is the one person I would like to meet. He is a footy player whose life was taken too quickly.
What’s the one thing you’re most excited about when thinking of meeting all the Carni participants for the first time?
I’m excited to see things through the Maccabi children’s eyes as they do things for the first time! it is really exciting to see young people have fun and achieve what they set out to do.
