Young talent pool

AT the NSW Junior State Age Long Course Swimming Championships last weekend, Maccabi NSW Swim Club’s Awen Hiroti competed in three events, and posted PBs to qualify for two 11 girls’ finals, coming sixth in the 50 free (29.79 seconds) and eighth in the 50 breaststroke (40.56). Ryan Miller, 10, and Mia Spiro, 11, represented Kincoppal-Rose Bay (KRB) in individual events. Miller’s best result was 45th in the 50 free, and Spiro’s was 44th in the 50 fly. KRB were also represented in relay events by Miller, Spiro, 12-year-old Jasmin Ezekiel, and 13-year-old Oliver Silver. And Randwick City’s Caleb Blicblau came 32nd in the 10 boys’ 50 breaststroke. Meanwhile, at last week’s 2023 CDSSA Championships, Moriah College’s squad (pictured) won the team trophy, and the seniors point score comp, while Emanuel School also impressed, coming third. Moriah completed the event with six age champions: Ethan Hammerschlag (13 boys), Samuel Mervis (14 boys), Ella Leshetz (16 girls), Cody Davis (17 boys), Tamryn Schubert (18 girls), and Arin Fine (18 boys). Emanuel School had two age champions: Jake Rosenfeld (12 boys), and Aviv Farhy (14 girls).
