Maccabi Ajax Senior Cricket Club Updates

The season is now well underway, with most teams having played 2 games.
It was a bitter sweet week of cricket, as all teams played in the memory of Joel Rembach, with black armbands worn by all players.
BDE Joel Rembach:
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joel Rembach, former President and life member of the Maccabi Ajax Cricket Club, the Northern Maccabi Cricket Club, and Vice President of the Maccabi Ajax Junior Cricket Club. Joel was the longest-serving committee member in the club’s history, dedicating over 30 years of his life to Jewish cricket in Melbourne.
Joel’s contributions were monumental; he played a pivotal role in the club’s merger and his tenure has led to the success and stability of the Maccabi Ajax Cricket Club as we know it today. In addition to this, Joel formed the first Jewish Girls cricket team, showcasing his commitment to inclusivity and the growth of the sport. He was also deeply passionate about mentoring young cricketers, always eager to share his knowledge and inspire the next generation. A true mensch, Joel dedicated his life to serving the community, and current and future generations of Jewish cricketers in Melbourne owe him an enormous debt of gratitude for his extraordinary contributions.
Only recently, we bestowed upon Joel the highest honour we have as a club: naming our annual award for service after him. Joel was honoured by this recognition and took great comfort in knowing that his legacy would live on through this award each and every year that the club exists.
We mourn with the Rembach family, Joel’s wife Arona and children, and we mourn with the entire club community. This is a very sad day for our club.
We wish everyone a long life and extend our deepest condolences to the Rembach family during this difficult time.
