Inge has been an active and committed member of Maccabi as both an athlete and administrator for well over 70 years. She was a key participant in the reformation of the Judean Girls’ Sports Club after the war; starting as a competitor at age 15 and in time going on to the Committee and eventually becoming President. She remained an active member of the club as both an athlete and administrator for 15 years. She was also a Foundation Member of the AJAX Ten Pin Bowling Club and was involved as both an athlete and administrator for almost 20 years.

Inge was a member of the AJAX Board for many years during the 1960s and 70s, and, as President of the Ladies’ Auxiliary, was actively involved in fund-raising for the establishment of a home for Jewish Sport – 97 Alma Road. As part of creating a home for many AJAX Clubs, she established and managed the kiosk at 97 as well as frequently volunteering behind the counter.

Senior Carnivals also benefitted from Inge’s involvement, with her taking on various roles over numerous Carnivals, including Billeting Officer, social events and catering.

Inge joined the Maccabi Lawn Bowls Club in 1981 and immediately became involved as an athlete and later also as an administrator. She also twice took on the role of Team Manager for the Women’s Lawn Bowls Team for the  Maccabiah Games.

In 2016, Inge retired from Lawn Bowls. She maintained her commitment to Maccabi by assisting Maccabi Victoria with their archives and regularly attending Friends of Maccabi Luncheons.

George Oshlack is an icon of Jewish Sport in Victoria. At the tender age of 93 he is still actively playing golf and squash many times a week.

George has been involved in Maccabi since the 1950s, being active in squash and golf for over 60 years. In the 1950s and 1960s George played pennant Squash and organized teams for North Eastern Jewish Squash Club which later merged with AJAX Squash Club to form Maccabi Squash Club. George was a founding member of Cranbourne Golf Club and was instrumental in encouraging many Jewish Golfers to join the Club. He was also a member of the Maccabi Lawn Bowls Club for over 30 years and has played locally, nationally and internationally.

George has represented Australia in the Maccabiah Games in Masters Squash 5 times, winning numerous medals and trophies. For his last Games in 2009 he won the Bank Hapoalim Award, with the plaque reading – “To George the ageless Squash Player”. George has also won World Masters Squash Gold Medals in 2001 and 2005.

George is equally decorated in golf, having won medals representing Australia in Masters Gold, in the Maccabi Senior Sports Carnival, and in the Victorian Jewish Golf Championships. In 2021 the Herald Sun did a feature story on George when he shot under his age at Cranbourne Golf Club. This is a rare achievement in the world of golf.

George has received numerous Maccabi awards including the Maccabi Australia and Maccabi Victoria Masters Sportsman of the Year Awards (2005) and the Maccabi Victoria President’s Award (2007).
