Musings from Megan – our U.S. Intern!

Megan-McGriff-Maccabi-NSW-intern“Hi everyone!

My name is Megan McGriff and I’m from Colorado in the United States.

I came to Sydney over my summer break from University to gain professional experience in Sport Management and Coaching. I have been so lucky to be able to intern abroad with Maccabi NSW for two months.

I have worked closely with the Maccabi Life team and helped plan community events and volunteered at events such as senior walks and community hikes – and I even got to participate in this year’s City2Surf on the Maccabi team. I also spent my time in Sydney coaching youth basketball with weekly practices and a 3-day basketball camp in July.

Personally, I’ve grown up playing sports and love the idea of coaching in the future. My internship gave me a such an amazing introduction into working with kids and teaching them sports I am passionate about, while also giving me the opportunity to look at community athletics and events from the management side.

My experience with Maccabi NSW has given me a new perspective into the sporting community and allowed me to meet amazing people and a tight-knit community.

I am returning home with a new appreciation for youth athletes, coaches, and community volunteers, and I look forward to applying my experience to my final year of University beginning at the end of August – and to my future career, which I now hope to pursue in youth athletics.”
