Maccabi Golf- Stoloff’s special dual Maccabi title triumph
SYDNEY golfer Danton Stoloff has secured a rare double triumph, taking out the Maccabi hosted NSW Jewish Golf Championships, just two weeks after securing the 2024 Maccabi NSW Matchplay title. In another superb edition of the NSW Jewish championships, a bumper field of 110 players turned out in superb conditions on Thursday, November 7 at Monash Country Club – the home of Jewish golf in Sydney – for the annual event. Holding a one-shot lead heading into the final round of the strokeplay competition, Stoloff was able to hold on by just a shot for the title. A couple of early birdies extended Stoloff’s lead from the first round on the previous Sunday, but after recording a nine on the fourth hole, he feared he’d blown his hopes of taking home two trophies in the same season. He would settle from there though and held off a fast-finishing Mark Weinstein by just one shot. Weinstein recorded an impressive score of 76 in the final round to finish second. Stoloff’s win came just a fortnight after his matchplay final victory over Scott Kendler at The Lakes, which saw him triumph from a field of 64 entrants. Stableford scoring decided the other grades at the NSW Jewish Championships and a remarkable round of 42 points from Terry Katz secured her the 2024 ladies’ title. The highest Stableford score of the day in the men’s was from Michael Glatter with 40 points. He won the prestigious A grade title and also the Brett Levein Trophy for the best men’s score of the day. Daniel Levy took home the B Grade title with 35 points, on a countback from Hilton Brett, while Tony Jacobson won the C grade trophy. Results in the three graded categories in the tournament were: A grade – winner Michael Glatter (40 points), runner-up Rael Hurwitz (37); B grade – Daniel Levy (35 points), runner-up Hilton Brett (35, countback); C Grade – Tony Jacobson (33 points), runner-up Fred Bart (32). Seven spots on the NSW team to take on Victoria and WA at the Presidents Cup in Perth from March 6 next year were locked in, via the NSW Jewish Championship placings.
