Fridman Defends Jewish VIC Title

Last year’s finalists in the Snooker Victorian Jewish Open – 21-year-old Australian squad member Marc Fridman and Brendon Lang – met again in the final of the 2023 tournament, held at Maccabi Snooker Club’s new home base at Hampton RSL Club on August 9.

Earlier, in the semis, they both had wins over their fathers, Tony Fridman and Michael Lang.

Marc Fridman successfully defended his title, winning the final 4-0, but the scores in the individual frames were much closer.

In the second frame, Lang – who has previously won the tournament several times – made a 52-point break, only for Fridman to overcome that advantage and win that frame and the third frame 58-57.

Maccabi Snooker Club president Adam Beitner was pleased with
the turnout of 24 players in the tournament, which is open to all Jewish players and played across several weeks, with a group stage followed by a finals series.

He is hopeful next year’s tournament will be even bigger.

The club will celebrate its new home ground at Hampton RSL this Sunday, from 3-5pm.
