As Maccabi Victoria Tennis Club’s junior players return to the courts to begin a new season, it’s worth reflecting on how well they did in the July to December 2023 season.
Maccabi fielded nine junior teams in Saturday and Sunday morning competitions, and two of them won premierships, while five qualified for the finals series.
The premiership winners were the club’s Section 4 girls’ team (Angelina Kaminsky, Bella Kaminsky, Danielle Ehrenreich, Bebe Kushlin and Laura Li), and the Section 8 boys’ team (Jonah Stowe-Lindner, Josh Slomoi, Jesse Stowe-Lindner, Jesse Lewis and Noam Werner).
The Maccabi girls’, and their main Section 4 rivals, Mentone, both dominated the season, winning 11 of their 12 rounds, but unfortunately for both teams, Mentone had to forfeit the grand final.
Team manager Segev Ehrenreich congratulated the Maccabi girls, saying, “Throughout the season, you all played with great effort, commitment and grace.”
Maccabi narrowly won the boys’ Section decider against Mentone. Both sides won three matches each, so it went down to games won, and Maccabi prevailed by 25-22.
Team manager, Adele Stowe-Lindner, praised the boys for winning all their regular season rounds, and then the premiership with “a tremendous win” in the grand final.
The Maccabi boys’ Section 2, 11 and 12 teams all finished in third place, bowing out in the preliminary finals.
