Final Jewish Golf Championships at Cranbourne
Final Jewish Golf Championships at Cranbourne Mark the End of an Era – and the Start of a New One
The 2025 Jewish Golf Championships were held for the final time at the Cranbourne Country Club on Sunday, 31 August, marking the end of a 41-year chapter of the event being held at Cranbourne. The golf course was in excellent condition, and the event was well organised with the assistance of the Cranbourne Golf Club team.
While the day carried a sense of nostalgia, it was also a powerful celebration of Jewish community sporting spirit, and Maccabi camaraderie, with a full field of 132 players turning out for the occasion.
In a significant milestone, the inaugural “Next Generation” Championship — for players under 45 — was introduced, attracting a strong field of 33 golfers. This new championship signals the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Maccabi Golf, as the next wave of Jewish golfers begins to make its mark. The strong turnout and enthusiasm on the day reflect a bright future ahead.
Golf was played at a high standard across all divisions. Remarkably, both the Jewish Championship Strokeplay and the Next Generation Strokeplay titles were won by 12-year-old Benjamin Lewis, a student at The King David School. His exceptional round of 75 (three over par) saw him rise above a competitive field of seasoned players.
Joel Hamilton, also playing in his first Jewish Championships, claimed runner-up honours in both strokeplay events with a score of 78.
The overall Stableford event was won by Ian Bejer with an impressive 40 points, narrowly edging out Anthony Jaye on 39 points. In the women’s division, Myra Goldman took out top honours with 37 points, followed by Lauren Dorfman on 33 points.
Full results are listed below. We now look ahead to the 2026 Jewish Golf Championships, which will be held at the prestigious Huntingdale Golf Club — a fitting new home for this cherished event.
