Maccabi News catches up with David Sofaer
Maccabi News caught up with David last week and is happy to report that he is revelling in a College environment. His International Tennis Federation under-18 ranking now sits at 63 and he says his hard work is paying off.
“Pepperdine University is great,” he told Maccabi News.
“We work very hard. Full time is all about hard work and dedication; finding time to even work extra to improve on everything on and off the court.
“My ranking were just results of hard work; training on court and fitness off court.
“I am playing College tennis, so after College, I will try play the pro-tour and see where I get.”
David, who left Moriah at the end of year 10 to train full-time in Florida, doesn’t play many tournaments in Australia, so his Aussie ranking has dropped in recent times. At College he is also studying an advertising degree.
His most recent trip to Australia saw him win compete and win in the MAIGS, and he describes his 2010 Maccabiah gold medal in Israel as an “awesome experience too”.
But they are just the entree events for David, who has also played the main draw of the Junior Australian Open singles and doubles and the qualifying draw at Wimbledon.
“It was a great experience to be surrounded by great players,” he says of his Grand Slam experience.
We look forward to watching David’s progress!
