Stephanie Tremigliozzi - Maccabi Hockey
What do you believe are the key qualities for success in field hockey?
Staying level-headed; if you can’t think straight then you won’t have composure when you have the ball and you won’t be able to pick the best plan of action. When the game is intense and fast-paced, it can be easy to lose your focus, which can impact your decision-making and overall performance. By staying level-headed, you can maintain your composure and think more clearly, allowing you to make better decisions with the ball and execute a strategic plan of action. This includes being aware of your surroundings, anticipating the actions of your opponents, and staying disciplined with your positioning and movements.
How do you stay motivated and driven to continue playing hockey, even when faced with setbacks or challenges?
For me, the team atmosphere at Maccabi has been a constant source of inspiration and motivation.
Despite not being the strongest team around, the camaraderie and support of my teammates have made all the difference. It’s the sense of belonging and being part of a tight-knit group that keeps me coming back to the club season after season. The encouragement and motivation that we give to each other on and off the field are what makes the team atmosphere at Maccabi truly amazing.
Furthermore, I have tried other sports and clubs, but none have provided the same sense of community and belonging that I feel at Maccabi. This motivates me to keep playing hockey and to keep improving my skills, knowing that I am part of something special and valued by my teammates.
Can you speak to the importance of diversity and inclusivity in field hockey both within Maccabi Hockey Club and in the wider community?
If your club isn’t inclusive then people don’t want to stay; people will leave the club as soon as they get the opportunity to play at a higher grade. We strive to create a culture of inclusivity that welcomes players of all backgrounds, abilities, and skill levels. We believe that diversity is a strength, and we work hard to ensure that everyone feels valued, respected, and supported. This not only helps to build a stronger and more successful team, but it also helps to create a positive and inclusive community both within the club and in the wider community. The inclusivity at Maccabi Hockey Club has kept players who are much stronger than the rest at the club and helped build up the club’s strength too.
How do you think the Maccabi Hockey Club can attract more players and build a stronger team?
Field hockey is a fast-paced and dynamic sport that requires skill, strategy, and teamwork. It’s a great way to get active, improve your fitness, and have fun with friends. We need people to try hockey; we have open days for anyone to come and try the sport in a session with coaching and experienced players around who are incredibly friendly and supportive to help any newcomers. It’s just about getting the word out there.
What are your future goals and aspirations, in your hockey career?
I want to help the women’s team to climb to a higher grade of play. Currently we are in a very low grade but have the potential to get much stronger. So helping other players on the field to improve is one thing I really try to focus on. I believe that we have the potential to become a much stronger women’s team with the right attitude, commitment, and hard work.
