Massive Win For Jackas
Ajax Footy Club Match Report:
AJAX’S men’s VAFA Premier B seniors and reserves have a 6-1 win/loss record, after both enjoyed wins by huge margins last Saturday at Gary Smorgon Oval against the struggling Monash Blues.
The Jackas’ seniors coach Wayne Oswald commended Richie Simon and Justin Vogel for top-scoring with five goals each in his side’s 27.18 (180) to 8.6 (54) thumping win, but said, “The most pleasing aspect was we had 10 individual goal kickers on the day.”
The men in red, black and white had a sizzling start, kicking nine goals in the first quarter, with Vogel imposing himself on the game from the first bounce, taking multiple contested marks and converting his opportunities.
After the main break, captain Nick Lewis ensured his troops remained focused on their roles, following a brief period of ill-discipline that enabled Monash to kick a few goals.
It worked, and AJAX finished the game with flair, nailing six goals in the final quarter.
Other highlights were Corey Zielinski’s Best on Ground performance, Matt Lincoln’s ball use off half-back, and Adam Caplan’s four-goal haul.
In reserves, AJAX thrashed Monash Blues by 60 points.
Max Bloom was named Best on Ground, Noah Spitz and Brandon Joel kicked three goals each, and Toby Kanat and Cobi Chrapot both had very strong games.
The club’s two men’s thirds teams both recorded a win after their opponents forfeited.
In women’s division 2, the combined AJAX/Old Camberwell side stayed in the battle against fourth-placed Old Trinity until the start of the fourth quarter but faded late to lose by 39 points.
Jackettes players Romy Klooger and Gypsy Folwell scored a goal each.
