Celebrating the Inaugural Maccabi Spirit Sport Award Recipients

The Maccabi Spirit Sport Award, launched this year as part of the Henry Jolson Pathways Program, honours Grade 6 students who embody the core values of teamwork, inclusion, fair play, participation, and sporting excellence. This award celebrates students who not only excel in sport but also inspire their peers, creating a welcoming environment for all. Recipients were recognised from six schools, each leaving a mark with their unique contributions to sport and community.

Each winner received a trophy and free registration for a season of Maccabi/AJAX club sport in the following year.

Let’s meet the exceptional students who set a new benchmark for the Maccabi spirit:

King David School – Cooper

Cooper stands out as a beacon of positivity in every sporting activity. Always ready to try new challenges with a smile, he encourages teammates and uplifts classmates in every setting. Cooper’s respect for peers and coaches has earned him a reputation as a role model. His willingness to support others and his sportsmanship make him an invaluable part of his school community.

Leibler Yavneh College – Jobe

Jobe is a shining example of resilience and determination in sport. His standout moment came during the Maccabi Cup basketball event, where he played through an injury, earning admiration from both teammates and opponents for his effort and attitude. Known for his dedication, Jobe consistently pushes himself to achieve his best while showing leadership through fair play and encouragement. His commitment inspires others and reflects his deep respect for the game.

Bialik College – Rachel

Rachel has had an extraordinary year as a leader and athlete. As a Primary School Sport Captain, she has guided her teams to significant achievements, including leading the netball team to victory in the District and Division competitions and securing a top-four spot in the Region. Rachel also excelled individually, winning District titles in shot put and the 200m sprint, and narrowly missing selection for the Victorian Primary School Netball Team. Her achievements in the Jewish Cup, swimming, and cross-country, combined with her sportsmanship and mentoring of peers, demonstrate why she’s a deserving recipient of this award.

Bialik College – Evie

Evie’s year as a Primary School Sport Captain has been nothing short of stellar. Her leadership has propelled her teams to multiple championships, including Jewish Cup victories in AFL and basketball, and District titles in netball and basketball. Individually, Evie claimed titles as District Champion in cross-country, 1500m, and triple jump. She not only performs at the highest level but also leads with integrity, always encouraging others to achieve their best. Her commitment to fair play and inclusiveness cements her as a remarkable role model.

Beth Rivkah Ladies College – Sophie

Sophie brings passion and athleticism to every PE class and sporting event. Her love for netball and her inclusive approach ensure that all students feel part of the team. Sophie’s consistent enthusiasm and ability to unite classmates make her a standout in her school community, and her spirited participation sets her apart.

Yeshivah College – Zusha

Zusha’s natural talent in sport is undeniable, but what truly distinguishes him is his character. While fiercely competitive, he never lets that overshadow the joy and camaraderie he brings to every game. Zusha’s kindness, encouragement, and sportsmanship enrich the experiences of everyone around him. His ability to balance competitiveness with positivity makes him a one-of-a-kind sportsman.

Mount Scopus Memorial College – Ben

Ben’s dedication to creating a supportive and inclusive sporting environment is what makes him exceptional. Known for his excellent sportsmanship, Ben ensures every teammate feels valued. His consistent efforts to include and uplift others have made a lasting impression on staff and peers alike. Ben’s approach to sport exemplifies the spirit of teamwork and inclusion.
