The Australian Open employs more than 12,000 casual staff each year.
Zac Chester from Carlisle Street’s All Things Equal Café, which ran a stall at the AO Ballpark this year, was awarded Ace of the Day by Tennis Australia during this year’s tournament. The Ace of the Day award is Tennis Australia’s recognition program for employees across the Summer of Tennis.
During the tournament, a QR code allowed staff members to nominate their colleagues for acknowledgment. Abbie Gosling from Tennis Australia said Chester brought unmatched energy and positivity to every shift.
“He connects with the team through stories, jokes, and his contagious smile, which lights up the room and sets the tone for a fantastic night,” she said.
She added that Chester’s enthusiasm created an uplifting and engaging atmosphere, leaving a lasting impact on both the team and the customers he interacted with.
His brother David said Zac had an amazing time, and it was heartwarming to see how welcomed and supported he felt throughout the tournament.
“Being part of the customer experience team was such a meaningful experience for him, and it truly gave him so much joy, confidence, and unforgettable memories. These moments mean the world to him and to our family, and we sincerely appreciate the kindness, inclusivity, and thoughtfulness the entire team has shown.
“The impact this opportunity had on him is beyond words. It gave him a sense of belonging, purpose, and pure excitement every single day.
“Seeing his happiness and pride in being part of such a world-class event was simply priceless,” he added.
