Maccabi All Abilities Cricket Season
By Jordan Friede, All Abilities Program Officer
As summer comes to a close, we have the opportunity to reflect on the incredible All Abilities Cricket season of 2024-25. The program attracted a large number of participants who were keen to enjoy sun-filled cricket over four Wednesday night sessions.
A highlight of the season was the Chanukkah Bash, our final session of the year, bringing together participants with the Ajax Football Club, Maccabi Ajax Cricket Club, and the wider Maccabi community for a fantastic hit-out and barbeque. Another milestone was the MACC Shabbat dinner, where almost 20 participants came together to celebrate the end of the cricket season in an encouraging and inclusive environment filled with joy, smiles, and excitement.
The night featured special moments, including Mattie Michael proudly standing at the front of the room to recite the blessing for the Challah—a highlight for Mattie, his dad, and everyone there to witness it. Participants Josh and Yoel also stood out, confidently raising their hands to ask guest speaker Daniel Shnider, a cricket journalist, questions in front of the entire room.
Throughout the night, we were loud, vocal, laughing, and smiling—truly enjoying being together. This sense of community will go a long way in growing the program and drawing in new players next season. It was incredible to see the cricket club champion true inclusivity and the impact that has on our participants. The energy and enthusiasm from this event will carry us into footy season and build excitement for the year ahead.
A huge thank you to everyone at Mac Vic and MACC who helped make this season so special.
