2016 Congratulations to our Maccabi Sports Stars

 

Winners of the 2016 Maccabi Victoria Sports Awards were announced last week,

The quality of our award nominees for the 2016 calendar year was outstanding and reflects the incredible talent in our community. We can be very proud of all winners and nominees.

Paralympic table tennis player Barak Mizrachi has been named Outstanding Jewish Sportsman of the year, Outstanding Maccabi  Sportsman of the Year and winner of our inaugural All Abilities Award. Mizrachi represented Australia at the Rio Paralympics in 2016.

The Outstanding Jewish Sportswoman of the year was Martine Lewis Mitchell, who took 1st place in the over 40’s Australasian Natural Body Building competition in the fitness division, qualifying for the world championships in Toronto.

Gymnast Alexandra Kiroi won the Outstanding Jewish Junior Sportswoman of the Year award and athlete Piper Montag, won the Outstanding Maccabi Junior Sportswoman of the Year award, whilst Snooker player Marc Fridman won the Outstanding Maccabi Junior Sportsman and cyclist Riley Hart the Outstanding Jewish Junior Sportman award.

Master awards went to Transplant Games swimmer Annabelle Taylor (Maccabi), athlete Zac Ashkanasy (Maccabi) and swimmer Barry Carp (Jewish).

Victorian Institute of Sport scholarship holder and Junior Australian Team cyclist Riley Hart was awarded the Rising Star Award.

Allan Rosen from the Maccabi Junior Cricket Club was named as the Outstanding Maccabi Administrator of the year.

2016 Congratulations to our Wonderful Volunteers

 

Blake Street Shule was abuzz last Sunday night as Maccabi Victoria honoured its valued volunteers and the best Jewish sport stars in the state in front of a capacity audience at the annual Maccabi Victoria Volunteer Thank You/Recognition Awards and Sports Awards Cocktail Reception – held during National Volunteer Week.

President of Maccabi Victoria and MC for the Night, Joe Dorfman welcomed everyone and thanked and congratulated all Maccabi volunteers, the lifeblood of our organisation for the important and invaluable work that they do for Maccabi. Awards were presented to Club Presidents and nominated Club Volunteers.

Joe also spoke about some of the important projects being implemented at Maccabi over the past year and into the future, including Maccabi’s Member Protection Policy (MPP) and the Henry Jolson Pathways Program.

“The Henry Jolson Pathways Program which starts this year will ensure that our clubs will provide an environment where members can reach their full potential.”

Nathan Shafir OAM, who recently stepped down from the MVSF after 13 years of service was recognised and presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for his tireless, professional and loyal support of Maccabi Victoria as a Director of the Maccabi Victoria Sports Foundation. His commitment to our sporting community is exemplary. Harry Procel OAM, who is currently overseas, will also be presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for his outstanding contribution on his return.

David Southwick MP, State Member for Caulfield addressed the crowd and assisted with presenting awards.·

2016 Maccabi Victoria Volunteer Awards

Maccabi Victoria Club Presidents were presented with awards for their outstanding contribution to their Clubs and Maccabi Victoria over the past year. And each Club President then announced their Club Volunteer of the Year for outstanding contributions to their club.
