In a standout latest adult pennant tennis season, all five of Maccabi Tennis Club’s teams finished in the top four and qualified for finals, showing solid depth across the board. Unfortunately no teams emerged with trophies in hand.
In the club’s highest grade, section three, Maccabi went down by two rubbers to four to Ormond, with their winning sets won 8-2 in singles by Marty Schwartz, and 6-2 4-6 6-2 in doubles by Jordan Jaffe and Geoff Rosenberger.
Maccabi’s section four side also fell by a margin of 2-4, to Airdrie Park, with winning sets earned by Jan Tenenberg (8-3 in singles) and Ryan Behr (8-6 in singles).
It was a much closer affair in the section six final, when Maccabi and Kings Park drew 3-3 on sets, but the latter won the trophy by winning 57 games to 44. Maccabi’s sets were won by Aaron Kramer (8-7), Daniel Henquin (8-5) and in doubles by Henquin and Adam Needleman (1-6 7-5 10-2 super tiebreak). The club’s section eight team lost 1-4 to Highmoor Uniting and their section nine squad fell 2-4 to Carmelite.
Although no finals trophies, it is an accomplishment in and of itself for all our teams to make it this far – let’s see what next season brings! #MaccabiProud
