Outstanding Results at Maccabi Athletics

Maccabi athletes and friends recorded outstanding results at the Athletics Victoria 10k and 3K event held at Lakeside, Albert Park, on Sunday 2nd June.
There were a number of amazing highlights including:

  • 51 year old Zac Ashkanasy winning the M50 division of the 10K in 32 minutes 13 seconds – which may just be the fastest time for this age group in Australia!! (Most incredible is that Zac is on a limited training regime  – and his main event would be 5K or less!)
  • Emma de Jong, in her first competitive 10K,  won the under 20 women’s race in a flying 35min 38 sec! (Emma jets off later this month to take up an athletic scholarship at Princeton University in USA)
  • Club coach 19 year old Jarrod Zuchkowski set a big pb of 32 min 59 sec in also his first 10K race.

Maccabi had one of its strongest contingents in many years compete in this round 3 of the Athletics Victoria XCR competition.
There were many XCR first timers, all who ran pbs, including Alex Katsabis (under 18 3km), Tim Goodman, Nathan Guttman, Joel Hamilton and Emma de Jong who joined seasoned athletes Zac Ashkanasy, Julien Schulberg, Ariel Golvan, Adam Bogatin and Jarrod Zuchkowski.
Others to compete included: Eli Adelist, Reuben Bolaffi, Jared Traub, Lachlan Gance, Danny Cohen, Alex O’Callaghan and John Zeleznikow.

Stacked full of talent, the Men’s division 5 team finished in 2nd position earning valuable points for the season tally.

The next race will be a true cross country race with an 8km run around St. Annes winery on the 15th of June.
