Victorian Jewish Golf Championship
The 2024 Victorian Jewish Championships was held at Cranbourne Golf Club on Sunday 27 October. The field was at full capacity with 116 golfers participating on a perfect day for golf.
The Strokeplay event attracted a strong field with several single figure handicap golfers, including Luke Aarons off scratch and Joe Lewis off a 2 handicap.
Cranbourne was in immaculate condition and the event was won by Tony Beaconsfield for the 2nd year in a row with a fantastic score of 77, closely followed by Luke Aarons on 78 and Joe Dorfman on 80.
The Stableford event was also hotly contested with Adam Faigen posting a winning score of 40 points. Myra Goldman finished 2nd with 39 points on a countback from David Blumgart on the same score.
The inaugural Next Gen Jewish Championships had a strong field of over 30 golfers and was won by Jett Nathan on 35 points on a countback from Ashley Singer and Jonah Faigen.
Maccabi Victoria Golf Club AGM
The AGM was held on the 27th October and the club was delighted to honour two members with the award of Life Membership to the Maccabi Victoria Golf Club.
Life Membership was awarded to Tony Beaconsfield and Michael Diamond.
Both Tony and Michael were deserved recipients as they have contributed significantly to the Maccabi Vic Golf Club for many years and worked tirelessly to ensure that the golf club remains strong and continues to grow. The meeting thanked Michael and Tony for their outstanding contribution.
Peter Janovic completed his term of office as President of the golf club and has left the club in a very strong position with many new initiatives starting during his tenure. These include promoting the Next Generation group of golfers who are the future of Jewish golf , the Maccabi Inter Club Teams Event and the Inter Family generation event.
Joe Dorfman has taken over the mantle of President of the club and thanked Peter for his significant contribution to the club and emphasized that now more than ever, it is important that Jewish golfers remain connected and with the support of the Cranbourne Country Club, the focus of the club is now on building the junior program, across boys and girls as well as facilitating the emergence of the next generation of Jewish golfers.
