Maccabi Cycling members bond in Bright
MACCABI NSW Cycle and Tri Club’s members participated in the club’s annual trip to Bright earlier this month, in Victoria’s beautiful high country, for three days of cycling adventures and camaraderie. It was the 11th year the trip went ahead and this time 25 club members participated. The weather forecast for day one was wet and stormy, but it cleared up enough mid-morning to enable the group to do a solid 120km ride over Rosewhite Hill and Tawanga Gap’s eastern side. That evening, a Friday night Shabbat dinner and service was held, which club member Sean Bloch said is always a highlight of the trip’s off-bike program. The next day the sun was out and the group took advantage by heading to nearby Falls Creek for a mountain stage-like challenge. That ride was 110km and included 30km in Falls Creek and 7km up Tawanga Gap. “The temperature was only 5 degrees at the top of Falls Creek, so we all rugged up for the downhill ride back to Bright,” Bloch said. “Once back in Bright, we had a swim in the river, which is more like an ice bath, because it is fed partly from melting snow.” On the third and final day of the trip, the group rode up a favourite spot of theirs – a 20km climb up Mt Buffalo’s slopes, on one of the most beautiful roads in the Bright region. “The weather was not our friend, as it was freezing cold, about 6 degrees at the bottom and -1 degree at the top, but that didn’t deter anyone and we all had a great ride and finished with our standard swim in the river,” Bloch said. The Bright trip is a highlight on the calendar for the club, which at Heffron Reserve and pool holds monthly triathlons in summer on Sunday mornings and duathlons in the winter months.
