Carnival Atmosphere at Maccabi Athletics
Photos by Peter Haskin
What a wonderful day and competition we had at the Maccabi Athletic Club Junior Track and Field Carnival held at Duncan Mackinnon Athletic track on Sunday 6th April.
Over 100 young athletes – from grade 3 to Year 10 ran, jumped and threw with gusto!
It was marvellous to see the enthusiasm of the young athletes – almost matched by the enthusiasm of their parents, grandparents, siblings and friends!
The program consisted of 5 events: 100m, 400m, 1000m, long jump and shot put – and we saw some impressive talent – but more importantly we saw terrific community spirit, camaraderie and just wholesome enthusiasm, smiles and support.
Athletes who won two or more events included Sofia Sable, Indie Blackstone, Ziggy Hearst-Rogers and Sienna Bobout. All the track results can be accessed:
The Long jump and Shot Put results will be available in next week’s newsletter.
Huge thank you to the following:
- City of Glen Eira for the Community Grant which allowed Maccabi to conduct this wonderful community event at no cost to participants
- Jemima Montag, who’s Olympic sponsorship of grass roots clubs through Woolworths, helped fund the delicious sausage sizzle
- The Maccabi Athletic Club organising committee of Adam Bogatin, Zac Ashkanasy, Jason Blankfield, Belinda Plotkin, Ariel Golvan, Ilia Eligulachvili, Shanie Landen and Bronwyn Elbourne.
- Club coaches David Blecher (MC), Ben Blecher (starter), Jarrod Zuchowski and Tamzyn Dolgoy
- MacVic for their guidance and arranging for professional photography.

- Caulfield Little Athletics – for all their support, Finishing Gates, loan of equipment – amazing
- All our wonderful helpers including:
- Life members Judy Kohn, Raie Moss, Harry Procel and Rick Kornhauser – and great to see Sandy Lewis there supporting her granddaughter (the third generation of family athlete)
- Parents, siblings, older club athletes who were truly amazing
And best of luck to Shanie Landen as she flies into Perth later this week to run the 800m at the Open Australian Track and Field Championships.
So we all, please, have to re-register/register for the next 12 months with the club.
