Relay success keeps Maccabi Athletics on top

Round 5 of the Athletics Victoria XCR series, the Sandown relays was run (and won by Maccabi!) on Saturday the 28th June – The men’s Division 4 team convincingly won their relay race, 5 x 6.2K in the outstanding time of 1 hour 44 min 03 sec. – beating the second team by more than 7min 42 sec.!

51 year old Zac Ashkanasy, was the fastest athlete (19 min 21 sec) in all of Division 4 and easily the fastest over 50 athlete on the day. The team was extremely well represented by Zac, Asher Grodski (21.36), Noah Star (20.27), Ariel Golvan (21.57) and Nick Hershan (20.42). The Div 4 team sits clearly on top of the ladder after the 5 XCR events.

The men’s Division 6 team (4 x 6.2K) finished 4th out of the 9 teams with great runs from Elliot Schulberg (22.59), Asher Myerson (26.52), Jason Blankfield (26.45) and Joel Hamilton (22.30), whilst Adam Bogatin (24.51) ran well in the M40 event.

Many club members and friends ran the Gold Coast half marathon and full marathon on the weekend – one at least, Len Bryer ran both on consecutive days!!
Great to see Elliot Schulberg clocked a big pb in the half, 84min 08 sec, and Elliot Kagen-Gescheit ran a great marathon in 2 hours 47min 24 sec – whilst others of note included Ricky Cahn, Jacob Bulafkin, Adam Sacks, Danny Harris, AskK, Danny Goldman and Elan Pamensky.
Round 6 XCR will be held in Ballarat on Saturday 12th July, a 10K race, and Round 7 will be held at Lakeside on Sunday 27th July, the Lakeside 10K.
We will take a short 2 week break from training and will re-convene on Sunday 20th July.
With Maccabi greetings,
Len Bogatin (0411 512404)
