Maccabi Hockey Club’s women’s team is going strong in Hockey Victoria’s Metro 1 East season after 12 of 18 rounds.
Last Sunday at their home ground in Elwood, they defeated Waverley Hockey Club 2-1, to leapfrog them into fourth place on the 10-team ladder.
Daniela Jona, and birthday girl Stephanie Tremigliozzi, were their goal-scorers, slotting in powerful, straight shots into the back of the net from set plays, while Maccabi’s backs stood up in defence once again.
They celebrated after the game (pictured above), and have this weekend off with a bye.
In round 12 of the men’s Metro 2 East season, Maccabi drew 2-2 with third-placed Old Melburnians, scoring through Lior Aufgang and Daniel Guttmann, to remain in first place, just one point ahead of Camberwell.
In men’s Vic League 3, it was a tough round for Maccabi, losing 0-6 away from home to in-form Gippsland.
In junior hockey, Maccabi’s U16 mixed team went into the school holidays with a gutsy 2-2 draw with Greater Dandenong.
And in men’s masters action, Maccabi’s 2-2 draw with Bayside Saints on Monday night kept them in second spot. David Birnbaum and David Rosner both found the back of the net.
