Ajax Ski Club – 2025 Club Championships
Ajax Ski Club held its annual club championship and Merrijig inter club challenge last Saturday at Mt Buller. The event was held in very cold icy conditions. The very strong icy winds that made the temperature feel like -14 C even though it was only -5 C. Despite this we saw some great racing on Skyline. Each competitor had two runs with the lowest accumulated time winning their division.
The club had 36 racers ranging in age from 8 to 60 years old. All divisions in the club championship were hotly contested. The closest result was in the Junior boys event, where Hugo Samuel defeated Leo Rubinstein by 0.37 seconds to take his second title in two years. Talia Tisher defended her Junior girls title, beating out her sister Lani. Ben Rogers also backed up in the men’s open category just beating Jake Liberman by 0.56 seconds. Ellie Tisher took out her first open women’s title defeating her aunty Ruth Morawetz in a strong generational rivalry. In the masters category, Tori Kausman and Brett Tait easily won their divisions.
In Merrijig defeated Ajax in the interclub challenge. Merrijig had a much smaller representation and were not able to compete against Ajax in all categories. The few skiers they did have easily accounted for their Ajax competition in most categories in which they competed.
The races were followed by a great cocktail party and presentation held at Merrijig. This was followed by our annual club dinner and presentation at Ajax. It was a fantastic weekend!

The 2025 Club Championships may be wrapped, but the action continues this weekend with back-to-back excitement as the club gears up for the Maccabi Snow Sports Championships. Kicking off Sunday evening with social events for kids, teens, and parents. Monday sees the return of the Michael Coppel Theatrical Slalom on Skyline – a highlight on the calendar and a great one to watch, especially with the course just a short walk from the Arlberg.
