Burnley Half Win Secures the Flag for Maccabi
Amazing results at the Burnley half marathon run on Sunday 7th September – Maccabi easily won the Division 4 teams race, securing top position on the ladder and ensuring we will win the flag again (having won Division 5 last year) – as long as we compete in the final event of the XCR series, the Tan Relays to be held Saturday 20th September.
Jarrod Zuchowski led Maccabi home with an excellent time of 72min 56 sec (only 8 seconds outside of his PB!). Jarrod finished in the top 10% of all male competitors – in this, one of the fastest and strongest half marathon fields in Victoria!
Asher Grodski was exceptional clocking 77min 55sec in his first ever half marathon, closely followed by Ariel Golvan (78min 35sec) and Noah Star (78min 36sec).
Others to run well included Jason Blankfield (97m 45s), coach Jake Surdut (99m 37s) and Asher Myerson(107m 21s).
And great to see Andrea De Jong and Eli Adelist also running very strong races.
Asher Brown, representing Victoria, ran the Schools Sport Australia Cross Country championships held on the Gold Coast today. Asher finished 12th in a very strong field and picked up the bronze medal as a member of Team Vic! Well done Asher.
Club champion para athlete Ori Drabkin was invited to the MacVic president’s breakfast last week, with 2 other talented young Maccabi sports people, to talk about their experiences in their sport and the importance and support of Maccabi. Ori represented himself, the sport and the club brilliantly!
LET’S GET EXCITED! The World Track Athletics Championships get underway in Tokyo starting this Saturday 13th September (and goes till the 21st September). Maccabi will have its own on the spot reporters there – namely coach Adam Bogatin and junior athlete Sofia Sable – can’t wait to receive their first hand reports – and photos!. We can watch the champs live on SBS: https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/world-athletics-championships
You can watch exciting Australian athletes such as; Sprinters Gout Gout and Rohan Browning, Abbey Caldwell , Claudia Hollingsworth and Peter Bol in the 800m, Jessica Hull and Cameron Myers in the 1500m, Matthew Denny in the discus, Nicola Olyslagers in the high jump, Nina Kennedy and Kurtis Marschall in the pole vault and our men’s and women’s relays – all with some chances of a podium finish!
