Maccabi Golf – Stoloff seals Maccabi NSW matchplay

MACCABI NSW Golf congratulated Danton Stoloff for taking out the 2024 Maccabi NSW Matchplay title, after emerging victorious over Scott Kendler in the final of the knockout competition on neutral ground at The Lakes on Sunday. Monash Country Club’s Kendler was in great touch early on, leading by two shots after two holes against the Maccabiah open men’s team member. Danton won the next two holes to square things up, and it remained level for the next five holes, courtesy of some crucial Kendler saves. The NSW Golf Club member took a two-shot lead early on the back nine, but Kendler dug in to win a hole back, with just four to play. He made a critical putt on the 16th to avoid being dormy – two down with two to go. On hole 17, Danton’s class came to the fore with a chip for a gimme, and when Kendler failed to make a 15-foot putt for the half, the 2024 title was decided. It was a final played in fantastic Maccabi spirit, with Danton winning 2&1 to earn the Eric Rosenberg Match Play trophy. For being in the final, both players were deservedly the first two to qualify for the NSW team that will contest Maccabi Golf’s Presidents Cup against Victoria and Western Australia from March 6-9 at Perth’s Joondalup Resort. Earlier last month, Danton played Kevin Lewinsky (The Lakes) in a tight semi-final battle, with the game all square after 14 holes before Danton claimed victory with a late charge. Also in the semis, Kendler claimed a 1-up victory over Moore Park’s Selwyn Woolf in an exciting contest – the local knowledge of the tricky greens likely proving the difference in the end. Up next is the Maccabi NSW Championship on Thursday, November 7 at Monash, with just over 100 players already entered.
