As a Respiratory Physician and Medical Director of a large Metropolitan Hospital in Perth, I am at the forefront of the issues and impact that Covid 19 has had on our community and I am pleased to see and indeed support the initiative from Maccabi Australia – being the Maccabi updates website. Maccabi Australia has always been about putting our community first and this site is just one example of this over a long period of time. Maccabi is the largest grassroots organisation in the community and plays a unique role in connecting the community through Sport and Wellbeing and I support their goals and ambitions.

As we move into a phase of fewer restrictions it is important to note there are some good practices that we established during lockdown that should stay with us indefinitely including washing hands, good oral and personal hygiene. In addition, it is important to maintain both physical and mental wellbeing through both structured and unstructured activities. This is where Maccabi Australia has played a significant role in the lives of many people in the community for many years; I still talk about Carnivals from years ago and reminisce about our great sporting achievements. In my limited sporting CV, not often did I get to play against a future Australian Test cricketer and with a future WA Sheffield Shield player, and win!! Clearly, I wasn’t the most important factor in our victory.

I trust that we all stay safe over the ensuing weeks (months) and I am delighted to commend Maccabi generally and this website in particular. The information provided is helpful, relevant and contemporary. I would recommend it to all.

Yours Sincerely

Eli Gabbay
