Junior Cricket Grand Final – Day One Summary
Day one of the Southern Bayside Junior Cricket grand finals saw two Maccabi-AJAX teams take the field, with both matches set to resume this Sunday.
U15 Match Report
The U15s won the toss and elected to bat against ladder-leaders Parkdale at Southern Road Reserve. Batting in tricky, dewy conditions proved challenging, with Maccabi dismissed for 112 just before stumps.
The innings was anchored by Jacob Kirszbaum, who made a patient 25 from 70 deliveries. Opener Toby Ritterman set the tone early, providing momentum with a quick 24 off 31 balls at the top of the order.
In response, Parkdale reached 2/0 from three overs before stumps. Play resumes this Sunday, with Maccabi aiming to make early breakthroughs into Parkdale’s top order.
U17 Match Report
At Boss James Reserve, the U17s lost the toss, with Hampton choosing to bat first in heavy dew. Hampton made a strong start, reaching 1/51, before a disciplined Maccabi fightback shifted the momentum, bowling them out for 96.
Ethan Sacks led the way with the ball, finishing with an impressive 4/23 from seven overs. He was well supported by Dean Waters and Zac Rostkier, who each claimed two wickets.
In reply, Maccabi ended day one in a strong position at 1/33, needing just 64 more runs for victory. Captain Benji Rostkier and Jordan Suss showed composure and resilience against the new ball to guide the team safely to stumps.
